The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood

I got this book from Silje from Ravelry. We were each others partner in the Summer Swap. I got this book and a lovely bamboo yarn from her. I read it almost right away!

The story is about Mary Baxter who loses her only child Stella. After this she is unable to do anything. Not read and not write, which were things she really loved. But after joining a knitting circle life slowly starts to get back to normal. There she can just knit and purl and don't think about Stella. She also gradually gets to know the other women in the knitting circle and hears their stories about loss, love and hope.

I really liked this book! It is a story about life. Not just the good parts of life, but also the not so good parts of life... And also a little about knitting. At the start of each chapter there's a quote about knitting. I really liked this one:

Really, all you need to become a good knitter are wool, needles, hands, and a slightly below-average intelligence. Of course, superior intelligence, such as yours and mine, is an advantage. - Elisabeth Zimmermann, Knitter's Almanac
